m Rahmen eines feierlichen Appells hat Verteidigungsminister Thomas de Maizière rund 1.000 angetretenen Soldatinnen und Soldaten im bayerischen Amberg gedankt. Die Angehörigen der 10. Panzerdivision waren von Februar 2010 bis März 2011 im Einsatz in Afghanistan und auf dem Balkan. Die „Zehnte“ war als so genannte Leitdivision für die Einsatzgestellung, die Einsatzvorbereitung und -nachbereitung verantwortlich. Während des Appells hat der Minister fünf Soldaten aus Bad Reichenhall und Altenstadt mit dem Ehrenkreuz der Bundeswehr für Tapferkeit ausgezeichnet.

German MoD, Thomas de Maizière, greeting Division COs and 1,000 soldiers at attention.

Five German soldiers (3 medics and 2 paras) awarded the Medal of Honor for Bravery in action, Germany's highest military award. Im Anschluss zeichnete er fünf Soldaten mit dem Ehrenkreuz der Bundeswehr für Tapferkeit aus. Stabsfeldwebel Stefan Weinmüller und Oberfeldwebel Timo Henken von der Luftlande- und Lufttransportschule in Altenstadt konnten die Auszeichnung genauso in Empfang nehmen wie ihre Kameraden des Gebirgsjägerbataillons 231 in Bad Reichenhall, Hauptfeldwebel Andreas Mey, Oberfeldwebel Norman Reichow und Stabsgefreiter Valeri Müller. Alle ausgezeichneten Soldaten beschrieb de Maizière als Kameraden, „die sich durch ihr hervorragend tapferes Handeln im Einsatz besonders ausgezeichnet haben.“
